Lindsay
Hassett, aka Betty Biodiesel, has been dedicated to taking care of the
environment ever since she became aware of biodegradeable cleaning
products by Shaklee at the age of 10. Living her life as the typical
teenager in Ukiah, and college student at the University of Chico,
she bought clothes from the mall, ate at fast food restaurants and
didn't get too involved with earth activism. From 1997-1999 she worked as a sales representative for two .com companies focused on advertising. Socially, she enjoyed her life of in San Francisco and was involved with creative groups, theater, dance, rock climbing and performance. In 1999 she left SF to live in Thailand, teaching English and rock climbing. After 9 months in Thailand she picked up her backpack and headed around the world visiting the US, Spain, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Nepal, India, and Vietnam. Over the course of a year and a half of travel she came face to face with how the developing world lives and upon arrival back in the US knew some things back home had to change. Upon return in 2000, she became a massage therapist, produced events, formed "Lotus Presents" a ritual theater dance troupe and entered New College's Green MBA program. It was at New College where a deeper sense and awareness of the challenges facing our planet, our US values, and care for all beings was instilled. Out of all subjects taught, critical thinking was the most mind opening. To question and examine her way of life was the most difficult reality check she encountered. It was in 2001 that she learned about Biodiesel and vegetable oil fuel being used in a handful of applications around the US and more so in Europe. In November, 2001 she bought and converted an '82 Vanagon to run on waste vegetable oil and was hooked. In 2003 she bought this pictured 2001 Bio Beetle and has driven 35K miles on Biodiesel. By
March 2002, she unveiled Betty Biodiesel as a new eco-supershero
character and found MC opportunities at Harmony Festival, Solfest and
Earthdance as great ways to share this new supershero with thousands.
From 2002 to current, Lindsay has been researching the realities,
effects and opportunities that come with school bus pollution;
She is looking forward to sharing with everyone she meets about the opportunity to promote cleaner air for our kids through the use of Biodiesel made from locally made waste vegetable oil. To get in touch with Betty Biodiesel contact Lindsay Hassett and she'll make the connection. |
